CoderCaster/Privacy

Privacy policy

Short version: we collect as little as possible, we don't use tracking cookies or advertising tools, and we never sell your data.

Who is responsible

This website and the CoderCaster software are run by Gonçalo Estrelado (CoderCaster), based in Portugal, who is the data controller for the information described here. For anything privacy-related, write to mail@goncaloestrelado.com.

What we collect, and why

1. Free trial downloads

To unlock a trial download we ask for your email address. We use it to give you access to the download and to follow up about your trial — for example to answer questions or send you a quote if you ask for one. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in handling your trial request, and steps you ask us to take before buying a licence.

The address is stored in our contact list at Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France), together with which trial you downloaded. You will only receive our occasional product newsletter if you tick the "Also send me occasional CoderCaster product news" box; that is based on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email or by writing to us.

2. Contact form

When you send a message we receive your name, email address, the product you selected and your message. We use them only to reply to you and, if you ask, to prepare a quote. The form is delivered to our inbox by FormSubmit (formsubmit.co), a form-to-email service, which also sends you an automatic confirmation. FormSubmit may process data outside the European Union.

3. Website statistics

We run our own statistics, built into this site and stored in a database in our Cloudflare account (Western Europe). They use no cookies and are not shared with anyone. For each page view we record the page, the website that linked to it (only its domain), a campaign tag if the link had one, the country the visit came from (derived by our host from the connection, while the IP address itself is not stored), and a rough device class based on screen width. To count unique visitors per day we calculate a one-way code from your IP address, browser identifier, a secret value and the date; the IP address itself is never stored, and the code changes every day so visits cannot be linked across days. We also count actions such as trial sign-ups, downloads and quote requests, without any personal details attached.

If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, no statistics are recorded for your visit. Statistics are deleted automatically after 13 months. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used.

4. Hosting

The site, its statistics database and the trial installers are hosted on Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc.). To deliver and protect the site, Cloudflare processes technical data such as IP addresses and requested pages, and may do so outside the European Union under its data processing terms.

5. Stored in your browser

After you unlock a trial, a signed access code is saved in your browser's local storage so the download links stay available for 30 days. It contains no personal data, is not a cookie, and is never used for tracking. You can remove it by clearing your browser's site data.

6. No third-party requests

Fonts, images and scripts are all served from this website itself, and the free countdown clock synchronises its time with this website too. Visiting this site does not send your data to Google, social networks or advertising companies.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask to access, correct or delete your personal data, restrict or object to how we use it, receive a copy in a portable format, and withdraw consent at any time. Just email mail@goncaloestrelado.com — we answer within one month.

If you think we have handled your data unlawfully, you can complain to the Portuguese data protection authority, the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (cnpd.pt), or to the authority in the EU country where you live.

Changes

If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and the date at the top.
